Dominnico Showcases Mamuki Spring 2024 at 080 Barcelona Fashion
Dominnico’s creative director unveiled a bold collection last night during the 32nd edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion, staged on the Modernist campus of San Pau. The presentation drew notable attention with influential figures from Spanish culture gracing the runway, including multidisciplinary artists, actors, socialites, and photographers who intersect fashion with contemporary art and media.
The lineup featured Sita Abellan, the actress; Alex de la Croix, a recognized social figure; Carmen Lomana, a prominent insider in the fashion scene; Madame Courel, a dynamic multidisciplinary artist; and Sonora, among other notable profiles. The appearance of these personalities underscored the show’s crossover appeal, linking fashion to broader cultural conversations.
Maemuki, a 22-look collection, anchors the show. The term Maemuki is Japanese and conveys the act of looking forward, signaling a forward-thinking approach for the Dominnico community. The collection weaves together influences from Japanese culture with urban tribe aesthetics, embracing gyaru and Sweet Lolita sensibilities. The designer continues to reframe this universe from a fresh, unconstrained perspective, balancing diverse currents such as steam punk, virtual universecraftsmanship, and upcycling with the digital age. The palette and mood blend kawaii charm with the brand’s signature sweetness.
The offer explores a dynamic play of forces, pairing purity with edge. It revisits emblematic pieces from the prior collection and introduces items with reference to classic lingerie elements such as lace, ruffles, bows, and ribbons. These motifs engage with BDSM-inspired motifs like harnesses, PVC accents, heart-shaped buckles, and metallic findings. Materials emphasize denim, leather, and recycled materials, while lycra provides structure. In terms of color, the brand favors soft pastels alongside white, yellow, pink, and black, creating a balanced yet striking visual language.
The show was anchored by a lineup that included notable names from cinema and music, echoing the brand’s broader appeal. Appearing on the front row and on the catwalk were actor Martiño Rivas, figures from RuPaul’s Drag Race, Arantxa Castilla-La Mancha, and Crispy, a well-known TikTok creator. Fashion photography was led by Rocio Aguirre, with Denise Pena portraying a key role in the visual storytelling, while musical performances featured Juliet and Mushkaa, adding a kinetic energy to the event.
