HE Cervantes de Petrer Theater closed the 2023 cultural season with a total of 12,091 spectators, a figure almost 20% higher than 2022. In 2022 the venue hosted 10,035 attendees, an increase from 2021’s 4,766.
Council Member for Culture, Fernando Portillo, noted that the participation data for another year reinforces the sustained effort to keep Petrer and the Cervantes Theater a cultural reference in the region, highlighting a firm commitment to culture over the last eight years.
According to the council member, the 2023 program also set a show record with a total of 49 planned performances, compared to 39 entries in 2022, averaging 246 attendees per show.
The councilor thanked the hard work of all council staff and the support teams of the municipal corporation (SEMUPE), saying that without these dedicated professionals, it would be impossible to run such a robust schedule of programming.
The programming has been made possible through a mix of local investment and external subsidies. An investment totaling 199,954 euros came from the Valencian Cultural Institute, the Alicante Provincial Council, and the Valencian Language Academy, supporting the theatrical lineup.
