To elevate wine culture and broaden the activities of the Casa Sicilia Enotourism Chair, Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) and the Vectalia group renewed their commitment. They decided to explicitly include wine culture in the chair’s name, signaling a clear focus on this essential sector.
The university named the Advisor Council of the Casa Sicilia Chair of Enotourism and Wine Culture at UMH in Elche on June 20, following an agreement signed by UMH Rector Juan José Ruiz and Vectalia Group President Antonio Arias. The signing took place at Casa Sicilia winery during a session on Alicante vineyards and climate change, which brought together representatives from several wineries and university experts.
With the agreement, UMH, Casa Sicilia Winery, and Vectalia reaffirm their dedication to education, research and the promotion of wine culture. The arrangement lays a foundation for future projects and collaborations that benefit both the academic community and society at large.
From 2016
Established in 2016, the Casa Sicilia Chair of Enotourism and Wine Culture was the first of its kind at a Spanish university. The renewal aims to advance training, research, development and knowledge transfer in enotourism and wine culture. Through a range of educational activities, studies and events such as seminars, conferences and outreach efforts, the Chair seeks to strengthen the wine sector and its integration with tourism.
Codirectors
The codirectors of the renewed chair are María Asunción Agulló, professor in the Area of Economics, Sociology and Agricultural Policy at UMH, and Ezequiel Moltó, a journalist with degrees in Humanities and Sociology and the Director of Communications and Institutional Relations at Vectalia. They are supported by the UMH Vice-Rector for Economy and Society, María José López. The arrangement aims to propel the chair forward by leveraging their broad experience and expertise.
The advisory council of the Chair includes the secretary of the Chair, Africa Martinez, and voting members Alin Campeanu, Irene Arias, and José Vicente Guillem.
