The Moscow City Court affirmed the ruling of the Moscow Gagarinsky District Court, which ordered the detention of actor Alexei Panin in absentia. This information was reported by the telegram channel Capital Courts. The Moscow City Court refused to accept the artist’s objections, according to the post.
Earlier, in February, the Moscow District Court ruled that Panin should be detained in absentia for a period of two months, effective from the moment of his extradition or deportation to the Russian Federation, or from the moment he is actually detained within Russia.
In May 2023, a criminal case was opened against the actor for calls to terrorist activities via the Internet (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and for actions violating the territorial integrity of Russia (Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code). The maximum penalty under these articles is seven years in prison.
Simultaneously, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs placed Panin on its wanted list. His data and photograph appeared in the ministry’s search database, indicating that he is wanted under a criminal article.
Panin has been living in Spain since 2020. In autumn 2023, he posted a photo on his Instagram account showing him with an American passport, a page that is linked to Meta, which Russia has designated as extremist and banned. He stated that he had moved to San Francisco and planned to relocate to Los Angeles.
Previously, the Moscow City Court rejected a request to exclude Galkin and Slepakov from the register of foreign agents.
