Robe Iniesta: “They want us musicians to be obedient”

make sure you are in One of the most creative moments of his career. Robe Iniesta does not stop composing, goes on tour and feels like a fish in water with the group that is part of his solo project. He is only tormented by the controversy over the cancellation of the Extremoduro tour, which is currently in court.

– How have the concerts been so far?

-Very good, lots of moves. People really love the life we make. We gave concerts last year, but there were still restrictions. The situation we are in right now makes everything better. Concerts are hectic.

– Your last album ‘Mayéutica’ is very experimental. How was it transmitted to the public?

-In a very natural and easy way. We played from start to finish. All songs are short for you.

– Symphonic is a trademark of Robe as well as his band. You can appreciate the role played by each member on the album. Is this the band of your life?

-Yes. We have been playing since 2013 and this is the third album. Her voice is very powerful, but what I love most is the nuances that each of them contributes, as you said. There is a lot of musical richness here.

-Does this band inspire you when it comes to composing? Do you compose according to the possibilities of being together on stage?

-Number. When I compose, I have absolutely nothing in mind. The songs come to the venue naked. We dress them together to take them to a common place where we all are. We will finish the tour in November and after some ‘time’ we will enter the studio. Maybe the new album will come out at the end of 2023.

– Looks like it will?

-All I can tell you is that it won’t be a concept album like ‘Mayéutica’.

– Do you compose on this tour?

-Yes. I’m doing something. I have songs but we haven’t had time to prepare them so they can’t be part of our live shows yet. We want to go to the local to rehearse them. They will be part of the new album, but they will still be built. Not all of them need to get new jobs, some will be laid off. Fortunately, I’m having some very good times.

– Are you feeling creative?

-Yes. When you’re on tour, you get into a musical dynamic that can be very beneficial to creativity, but on the other hand, the songs you sing on stage are too much in your head. In general, I never know when something will pop up. I don’t know where is the button to press to feel creative, inspiring. I spent some time without composing. Actually a few years. Not a single sentence came out. Over time, suddenly, they began to come to me. I do not know what I’m doing. I do not know what it is. But everything has changed.

– Was it necessary?

I think he set the bar too high for me. I do not know. Composition is a game. Every time I pick up my guitar to compose, I say, ‘Let’s see if something comes out’.

– He released a preview of his new album. The name of the song is ‘Incomprehensible’. It sounds like an anthem and inside guarantees that he doesn’t regret anything he’s done. He speaks very clearly, but the title of the song is ‘Incomprehensible’.

-Things are happening that cannot be clearly explained. I talk about certain things in the song, but I also say things that are not understood. Sometimes when you say things as they are, it seems as if they are not understood.

– Your lyrics have always saved messages. Play with symbols. The ‘moon’, ‘poppy’ etc in his time on Extremoduro. Instead, there are more ‘doors’ and ‘windows’ at this stage.

They are different metaphors. They can be seen in many ways. I also don’t like to say things very clearly, I don’t like to tell anyone what is right or wrong. What I’m looking for is to act and then make you think. These symbols are part of my language. I tried to be less mysterious but I can’t (laughs). The songs say what people understand, because once they are made they no longer have the same meaning as when they were born. What the musician wants to say with the song is no more important than how the public feels with the song.

– Who are you saying with these words?

-As usual. A voice that calls to rethink everything and see everything with new eyes.

-You still attract followers who want to learn more about your life, your composing style, and your daily life. Have you ever thought about opening up your life more to your followers?

-I don’t need any. What happens here is that there is a lot of gossip. It seems that people have no inner life, only outer. I don’t feel like anything. I am a musician and the person is up to me. It’s art I show others, the rest is nobody’s business.

– I know you can’t talk much about the failed Extremoduro tour because the case is in court. But how does he take the matter personally?

-Too bad. Go figure. The organizers of the tour sued me for 3m euros for calling them ‘stupid’ and complaining about how they refunded all the tickets. That’s not just my opinion, Facua said. Now I have a case with a multinational company. It seems they want us musicians to be obedient. I have no choice but to defend myself. I hope reason prevails in the end.

– Will there be new developments this year?

-I do not know. It is in the hands of justice. we will have to wait.
