Eurovision 1980 contestant Vesa Matti Loiri dies

On August 10, Finnish singer Vesa-Matti Loiri, known by the pseudonym Vesku, passed away. He was 77 years old. The artist’s death was told by his manager, Peter Eklund. NEWS WITH YLE.

The cause of death was an oncological disease diagnosed in January. “The greatest of the greats, the highly respected Libra-Matti Loyri is gone. You touched our Finnish souls so deeply. “There is a good road to the unknown, my dear friend,” tweeted Finnish President Sauli Niiniste. Prime Minister Sanna Marin joined in the condolences, saying that the singer is “the interpreter of the Finnish spirit”.

Loyri represented her country in the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Huilumies”. The composition scored just six points, finishing in nineteenth place. Despite losing the show, the singer gained immense popularity in the country. Almost a million copies of his debut album were sold.
