The director is French actress Maiwenn Le Besco, who starred in Leon and The Fifth Element. She will also play the title role of Jeanne Dubarry, the last mistress of Louis XV. The film is about a working-class woman and a courtesan who becomes the official favorite of the king and moves to Versailles.
For Johnny Depp, this is the first French role, and for his fans a long-awaited return to the screens. Hollywood refused to cooperate with the actor after ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of domestic violence. In June, Depp restored his reputation by winning a lawsuit against Heard.
