The Moscow Kurdish Film Festival, which includes films from Iran, Iraq, Kurdistan, Turkey, France, Syria and Denmark, begins in the capital on September 18 with the Iraqi film “Sinjar” directed by Anna M. Bofarul. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the event.
This year, the festival focuses on intercultural dialogue and cooperation with Russia. The feature film competition program includes seven feature films from Iraq, Turkey and Kurdistan, as well as films from 12 countries, including Canada and the Netherlands.
Among the entries in the competition is “Mosul, My Home,” an experimental film directed by Adalet R. Garmiani (Iraq), which examines the aftermath of war through a walking journey through the ruins of Mosul. The 1988 historical drama by Hejwan Zendi (Iraq) is based on the true events of the gas attack on Halabja during the Iraq-Iran War.
Mehdi Ahmed’s (Kurdistan) film “The Horse” tells the story of the protagonist’s desire to return home after the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime. Saheem Omar Khalif’s (Iraq) sports drama “Baghdad Messi” tells the story of a ten-year-old boy who dreams of playing football in the war.
The film “Good Days”, directed by Özkan Küçük, tells the story of Kurdish actors trying to stage a play that was banned 25 years ago.
The festival also features documentary and short film competitions, many of which touch on the issues and social status of women in Kurdistan.
Previously in Russia rejected in issuing a distribution certificate for a film about a famous Russian poet.
