Warner Bros. is closing its branch in Russia. The relevant document was published in the database of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.
According to the document, the decision to liquidate the legal entity of the film company was made on July 19, 2024.
Against the backdrop of events in Ukraine in 2022, the largest majors – film studios Disney, Paramount, Warner Bros. and Sony, and Universal Pictures announced that they refuse to release their new films in Russia and cease their activities in the country. Russian streaming platforms also lost films from these film studios.
It is noted that films are not included in the parallel import list of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, because “they cannot be extended to audiovisual works, as they are not goods according to the Goods Nomenclature of the EAEU Foreign Economic Activity Classification.” Hollywood premieres are broadcast in Russia in “shadow” distribution.
