Members of the Dutch Parliament Ruben Brekelmans and Claire Martens from the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy were outraged by the performance of Russian TV presenters Vladimir Posner and Ivan Urgant at one of the main theaters in the country’s capital, the Amsterdam Theatre. The MPs requested clarification of this situation from Dutch Foreign Minister Hanke Bruins Slot and Foreign Minister for Culture and Media Fleur Greper. Brekelmans and Martens’ call, consisting of 11 questions, is about the performance that took place on May 28.
Among other things, the MPs ask whether the government is familiar with the biography of “propagandists who openly take a pro-Russian position in their work.” The question also states that Posner “does not condemn” Russia’s actions in Ukraine and “blames the West.”
Brekelmans and Martens also asked the authorities how this speech was “connected with the policy of other cultural institutions to sever ties with Russia.”
