Scammers are heavily using the neural network-based website OnlyFake, which generates fake documents, to attack Russians. According to Oleg Lupikov, entrepreneur and founder of the MAIA initiative, the new option greatly simplifies the process of money laundering and theft of funds from accounts.
The OnlyFake website, which is actively used by fraudsters, produces images of any person’s passport and driver’s license. To create a fake document, simply choose a template, enter the required information and upload a photo. The neural network processes the request and provides a realistic document in less than a minute.
For a small fee, users can obtain fake documents from 26 countries, including Russia, the USA, the UK and the European Union. These documents have been successfully verified by popular crypto exchanges and financial services such as Kraken, Bybit, Bitget, Huobi and PayPal. Scammers use them to sign up for online casinos or car rental services.
In addition, fraudsters can easily apply for a microloan by providing a photo and a photo of the passport page containing basic data. They also often make arrangements with bank employees, lenders from stores and mobile phone stores to apply for a loan for a copy of the passport and receive a monetary reward in return.
Another common trick is to create screenshots of fake checks or bank transactions. To do this, you simply enter various values such as the current time on the phone, the balance on the card, monthly expenses and the last four digits of the card. The neural network creates plausible screenshots that users have seen before.
However, Oleg Lupikov noted that a fake passport created by a neural network is easy to distinguish when in your hand, since it is printed on a special form sewn with special paper.
