Disney may say goodbye to Mickey Mouse after 95 years of royalty expire

Disney may forfeit the exclusive rights to Mickey Mouse due to limitations. Reported by The Guardian.

Under US copyright law, entertainment giant Disney may soon lose the exclusive rights to some of the characters most responsible for the brand’s global recognition, including the mouse mascot.

The animated character Mickey Mouse was created on October 1, 1928. In 2024, Mouse should become the public domain when copyright expires. This takes into account the fact that in 1998 the United States passed a law that froze the history by which artifacts became available to the public. It was unofficially called the “Mickey Mouse Protection Act” as the animation master’s copyright was extended until 2024.
