In conversation with artist Nikas Safronov mk.ru I remembered how the artistic director of the Maly Theater, Yuri Solomin, rejected his portrait, considering him unworthy.
“Despite his titles and high status, he was always communicative and communicated in a polite and courteous manner. Most importantly, Yura was very modest. I remember offering to paint his portrait in the early 2000s. At first Yura politely refused: “I am not worthy,” said Safronov.
Thereupon, the painter invites the director to visit so that he can at least evaluate the master’s paintings. However, Safronov still managed to persuade Solomin to pose a little. The artist boasted that this work was exhibited more than once and gained success both among the audience and in the eyes of Solomin, who really liked the drawing.
“Friends, family, colleagues and the theater troupe of the Maly Theater adored him. “Probably few actors have been so sincerely loved by the entire acting community,” Safronov summarized.
