Sberbank Expands in Crimea: Branch Growth, Services, and Customer Trends

Sberbank reported that its Crimea offices served 15,000 people over a single month, with a striking 70 percent opening new accounts or becoming first-time customers. The bank highlighted that the most popular services include issuing debit and credit cards, opening deposits and accounts, and obtaining statements and certificates.

In a broader view, the Crimea branches handle two to three times as many customers as comparable offices in mainland Russia. The report also notes a younger customer base in Crimea, with 51 percent under 45 years old, compared with 57 percent under 45 in mainland branches.

Operations began in January when the peninsula saw its first ATMs installed, and today more than 40 ATMs serve cities such as Yalta, Sevastopol, Simferopol, Sudak, Kerch, and Evpatoria. By mid-year, the network was slated to expand to about 80 devices across Crimea, increasing accessibility for residents and visitors alike.

The first Sberbank office on the peninsula opened on May 6 in Yalta, followed by a second location on May 15 in Sevastopol. With these openings, Sberbank extended its full range of services and products to Crimeans, enabling individual customers to apply online for and receive SberCard credit, open deposits, and participate in lending programs such as mortgage financing and consumer loans. The bank also broadened its service offerings for local legal entities, strengthening support for regional businesses.

On May 15, Sevastopol welcomed its first Sberbank branch, positioned in a prominent area on Rudnev Street to maximize accessibility for residents and visitors. The new location ensured that the city’s population could access the bank’s core services and products, reinforcing Sberbank’s presence across the peninsula and solidifying its role in financing personal and business needs.
