Samotlorneftegaz Drives Energy Efficiency: 2022 Savings and Modernization Milestones

Samotlorneftegaz, a major production asset of Rosneft, reported that its energy efficiency program reduced standard fuel consumption by about 24 thousand tons in 2022. This achievement reflects a tangible drop in energy use across its operational footprint and aligns with the company’s ongoing push toward smarter resource management.

Measured in monetary terms, the impact equals roughly 813 million rubles in cost savings. The corresponding energy savings reached around 197 million kWh, a volume sufficient to power a city of 100,000 residents for nearly ten months without interruptions. This demonstrates how targeted efficiency measures can translate into real and sustained economic relief while supporting stable energy supply for communities nearby.

Within the framework of the energy efficiency program, Samotlorneftegaz completed roughly 2.3 thousand measures across its core production activities. These actions span the deployment of cutting-edge technologies, the modernization of equipment, and the optimization of processes to reduce waste and improve overall performance.

As part of equipment upgrades, the company installed about 1,100 high-voltage submersible electric motors, around 180 high-efficiency electric submersible pumps, and more than 200 new-modification transformers on its mechanized infrastructure. These components are designed to operate with lower losses and greater reliability, contributing to meaningful energy reductions in daily operations.

In the refining and reservoir management segments, 12 energy efficiency measures were implemented, each tailored to the specific needs of the equipment involved. This approach ensured that improvements were aligned with the unique characteristics of different processes and systems, maximizing impact where it mattered most.

Samotlorneftegaz also launched an automatic boiler room at the central collection point of the Lor-Eganskoye field. The new system uses specialized controls to automatically select the optimal heat supply mode based on weather and operating conditions, helping to balance energy use with demand while maintaining steady heat for essential facilities.

Across these initiatives, the company highlights how a structured program of modernization and process optimization can yield sizable financial savings, reduce energy intensity, and support long-term operational resilience. The results underscore the value of proactive investment in energy efficiency as a core element of responsible energy production and shared community benefit.
