Russia Aims for Technological Sovereignty and Domestic Innovation
The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, stated that the nation will not revert to an old model built on imported developments. He underscored that the economy will move away from reliance on foreign technologies and instead develop its own capabilities, a stance reported by TASS.
According to Mishustin, there will be no return to previous working patterns that depended on foreign tech. The emphasis is on cultivating homegrown solutions and strengthening domestic research and production channels to reduce exposure to external market shifts.
The Prime Minister also noted that Russia has yet to achieve a stable level of production resilience under ongoing sanctions. He stressed the importance of reaching technological sovereignty to safeguard industry, energy, and the broader economy against external pressures.
He highlighted the need to minimize the impact of adverse external conditions and to attain genuine leadership in critical sectors. The goal is to secure full-spectrum technological superiority across core industries, ensuring that strategic sectors operate with dependable, internal capabilities.
Earlier information indicated that researchers from the Development Center of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (NRU HSE) have been focusing on domestic innovation strategies. Since February 2023, the Russian industry has demonstrated a steady recovery, characteristic of a brief, vigorous rebound phase that emphasizes rapid modernization and self-reliance.
In another development, it was reported that the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, known as Rospatent, registered the trademark “Sadno i dot” for the funeral home services provided by Ritual.ru. This move reflects ongoing efforts to protect and organize emerging domestic brands in various sectors, including service-oriented industries.
Experts note that the push toward self-sufficiency aligns with broader government plans to strengthen industrial autonomy, expand local production networks, and accelerate the adoption of homegrown technologies in manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and digital infrastructure. The emphasis remains on reducing dependence on external suppliers while fostering innovation ecosystems that can sustain long-term growth and resilience.
