Russia anticipates continued growth in egg and poultry output for 2024

Russia is forecasting higher egg and poultry meat output for 2024, a projection shared by Maxim Uvaidov, deputy minister of agriculture, during a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Agriculture. The outlook reflects a continuation of the positive trend seen in recent years and signals ongoing expansion across the sector.

In 2023, egg production climbed by 1.2% year over year to reach 46.6 billion eggs, marking the strongest result since the 1990s. Officials expect the growth trajectory to continue, supported by investment plans from several large poultry enterprises that aim to raise production capacity. This optimism is underpinned by the sector’s profitability and reinforced by the government’s lending support through concessional loan programs.

Poultry meat production surpassed 7 million tons in 2023, and the Deputy Minister projected that results would improve by at least 2% in 2024 as farms push ahead with expansion projects and efficiency improvements. The overall supply chain is anticipated to remain stable thanks to domestic production resources and strategic policy measures.

Uvaidov emphasized that Russian producers rely on fully domestically manufactured veterinary medicines and vaccines. This domestic capability is designed to prevent disruptions amid the withdrawal of several foreign pharmaceutical firms from the Russian market, helping maintain continuity in animal health management and biosecurity.

In mid-January, chicken and egg producers reached out to government authorities seeking assistance, signaling ongoing collaboration between industry players and policymakers to navigate market conditions and sustain growth momentum.

Rosstat previously reported efforts to adjust prices for eggs and chicken meat, a move aimed at balancing supply with consumer demand and supporting market stability in a dynamic economic environment.
