Activity around parallel imports into Russia has shown a substantial volume, with deliveries totaling roughly 4 billion dollars in value. This figure was highlighted in a briefing to the Central Federal District Investment Council, where officials discussed the scale of parallel imports within the economy. The discussion focused on how this sourcing channel is contributing to the availability of a wide range of goods, even amid sanctions and regulatory adjustments that influence trade patterns.

Official estimates indicate that about 307,000 tonnes of goods entered Russia through parallel importing channels, with a value close to 4 billion dollars. These numbers underscore the significant role that non-traditional sourcing plays in meeting consumer demand and sustaining supply in various market segments. Parallel imports operate without explicit permission from copyright holders, a framework that has been legalized in Russia for the period up to the end of 2022, allowing certain import paths to proceed under updated regulatory rules.

The assortment of goods authorized for parallel import is defined by a list maintained by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The list currently encompasses more than 50 product categories, including automotive brands (such as Volkswagen, Skoda, BMW and Toyota), consumer electronics (Apple, Samsung, Sony and others), household appliances (Siemens, Dyson and similar brands), and gaming consoles (including Xbox and PlayStation) as part of the coverage. The roster is designed to be periodically refreshed to reflect evolving market conditions and supply chain realities.

There have already been updates to the list, with the ministry expanding the scope in the first half of July to include additional parallel imports from brands like Siemens, BMW and Lego. This ongoing adjustment signals an intent to adapt the program to changing import needs and consumer expectations while balancing regulatory considerations and intellectual property protections.

In late July, officials reaffirmed that the trajectory of the Russian economy, aided by measures such as parallel imports, was progressing more favorably than earlier projections had suggested for the March–April period. The broader implication is that parallel import activity remains a noteworthy component of the domestic market structure, potentially influencing price dynamics, product availability, and consumer choice as the economic environment continues to evolve.
