The MTS digital ecosystem expanded to two new stations on Moscow’s Solntsevskaya line, bringing robust mobile communications and high-speed mobile Internet to the metro as it connects for the first time with the city’s airport system. The company’s press service announced this milestone, underscoring how the upgrade integrates the transport network with the digital life of travelers heading to and from the capital’s air gateways.
At the Vnukovo Airport and Pyktino stations, which began operations on September 6, the mobile network is designed to support the greatest possible number of passengers. From day one, riders can access reliable voice services, smooth scrolling, and fast data speeds while on the platforms. In the initial hours after launch, data transfer rates on the platforms neared 180 Mbps on average, with peak speeds surpassing 474 Mbps, illustrating the capacity and performance of the new system.
The Vnukovo Airport station marks a first for the Moscow metro by linking the rail network directly with one of the city’s major air hubs. Recognizing the critical role this section of the Solntsevskaya line plays in connecting regional transport with the broader metropolitan infrastructure, the rollout of the network began in synchrony with the opening of the new stations, according to Vladislav Medvedev, head of the Moscow region division of MTS.
Medvedev added that subscribers will have access to clear voice communications, fast mobile Internet, and a range of digital services with stable signal and expansive coverage across the new stations. The upgrade is designed to enhance passenger experience by enabling seamless connectivity during travel, waiting times, and transfer periods, as well as supporting live navigation and real-time information services.
In summary, the new Vnukovo Airport metro station, positioned at Moscow’s international airport, opens to passengers on September 6 and is part of a broader effort to modernize the city’s transit infrastructure with advanced digital infrastructure. The project emphasizes the importance of uninterrupted mobile access for commuters and travelers alike, highlighting MTS’s role in delivering high-quality mobile experiences within urban transport corridors, and signaling ongoing investments in connectivity for Moscow’s growing mobility ecosystem. These developments reflect a strategic focus on integrating transportation with digital services to improve efficiency, reliability, and user satisfaction for both residents and visitors, as observed by industry observers and city officials.”
