Coffee spend and take-away trends in Russia, 2023–2024

The average coffee bill in January and February 2024 stood at 193 rubles, marking a 10 percent rise from the same period a year earlier. This data comes from the Check Index resource of the OFD Platforms company, provided at the request of socialbites.ca.

takeaway coffee purchases rose by 14 percent over the year, with cappuccino and latte most commonly ordered in 200 to 300 ml paper cups.

In 2023 the typical coffee purchase price reached 189 rubles, up 12 percent from 2022. The number of coffee purchases also grew by 18 percent year over year.

Coffee sold in the 200 to 400 ml range from cafes or described on receipts as coffee to go was counted as a form of packaged coffee for statistical purposes.

Check Index experts observed that the segment of light snacks and beverages expanded as visits to catering venues increased, domestic tourism grew, and mass events such as conferences, festivals, and fairs returned to urban centers. Out-of-home coffee consumption is rising rapidly. Experts say this take-away coffee format supports the growth of coffee kiosks and standalone coffee shops in busy transit hubs.

Beyond coffee, the most purchased items in foodservice for 2024 included cakes, muffins, cookies, bread products, and salads. Professionals note that coffee, along with bouquets, is increasingly among the top purchases in the floristry sector.

Earlier socialbites.ca reported that Russians are dining at fast food outlets more frequently.

In addition, there were reports of price increases for a pancake-related product set.
