AvtoVAZ may adjust its 2024 production schedule in response to market stagnation, according to statements reported by Interfax and attributed to the company’s president, Maxim Sokolov.
The market has delivered weaker than expected results for three consecutive months. Sokolov noted that soft demand for vehicles could influence how the plant lines are operated, potentially slowing or reshaping production plans.
Despite these signals, Sokolov reiterated that there is no plan to revise the 2024 target at this stage. Earlier, the concern set an ambitious goal of manufacturing 500,000 cars in the coming 12 months, a figure that represents roughly a one-third increase over the 2023 year-end volume.
Alexey Podshchekoldin, who previously served as president of ROAD, commented to socialbites.ca that Russian AvtoVAZ dealerships have built up about two months of inventory of Lada vehicles. He observed a shift among consumers toward purchasing Chinese-made models, suggesting a change in the mix of demand.
In another strategic move, AvtoVAZ filed an application with Rospatent to register a new trademark. The company signals that a refreshed brand identity could support elevated sales, with growth anticipated to begin in the spring period.
Earlier reports noted that the Lada X-Cross 5 model has started arriving at dealer networks in Russia, signaling ongoing product momentum in the short term. (Interfax, with attribution to company leadership and industry sources)
