Russian businesses are facing a new problem when paying for imports from China. Some Chinese banks have reportedly started refunding payments for goods delivered to Russian importers. “Vedomosti” Four entrepreneurs faced this situation.

One importer said that three months after payment was made, he was refunded a yuan payment to a major Chinese bank for goods that had cleared and been received by customs. Another businessman waited nearly three months for his RMB payment to be completed at one of China’s largest banks; during that time, he processed and received the goods at Russian customs, but the money was unexpectedly refunded. The third respondent said that he received the refund about four months after shipment, and that, according to him, the payment was received by the Chinese counterparty.
Another entrepreneur decided to return the money after learning that he had not received payment for the goods from his supplier in China (for reasons not specified). This payment was sent in May for goods that the importer had already received at the time of the return.
