A second large-capacity tanker for transporting reduced gas was spotted near the loading terminal of the Arctic LNG-2 facility. The length of the ship, about 290 meters, corresponds to the characteristics of the Indian gas carrier Asia Energy. The agency writes about this Bloomberg based on satellite imagery.
Earlier in August, the first LNG delivery was made from the same facility under American sanctions, on the same shipping company’s Pioneer tanker. The publication writes that both gas carriers are likely part of a “shadow fleet” that Moscow is using to bypass the restrictions.
Asia Energy is managed by Ocean Speedstar Solutions, according to Equasis. The company did not respond to requests for comment. Arctic LNG-2 operator Novatek also did not comment on the tanker’s arrival.
The US sanctions in November 2022 were aimed at preventing the start of exports from a new facility with a capacity of 19.8 million tons per year. Although LNG production started in December, shipments could not be made due to restrictions on private ship supply.
Before this, Western insurance companies, including the American Club and the West of England, were known to have insured secretly. to continue Insure tankers carrying Russian oil despite the risk of violating the G7 price cap.
Russia was not enough before reduced oil production.
