In January-February this year, Russians bought 20% fewer bananas in retail chains than in the same period last year. This was reported by RBC with reference to data from research firm NielsenIQ.

However, in the autumn of 2023, a decrease in demand for the fruit began to be recorded, and its sales decreased by 16.3% in September-October.

Irina Koziy, general director of Berry Union and industry agency FruitNews, explained that banana consumption among Russians has decreased this year due to rising prices due to the depreciation of the Russian currency.
