Despite the restrictions from Ecuador, there will be no shortage of bananas in Russia. This opinion was expressed by Olga Zhiltsova, Associate Professor, Candidate of Economic Sciences at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, in an interview with socialbites.ca.
According to him, there are alternative banana suppliers such as India or Vietnam.
“For the last few years, Ecuador has really been the market leader in banana supply, but if you remember 10-20 years ago, Vietnam was the leader in the banana market; now you can find Vietnamese dried bananas on the shelves,” Zhiltsova said.
The associate professor noted that banana prices may initially rise due to the need to establish logistics with new partners. However, after 4-6 months, the cost of bananas should decrease.
