Long-term contracts between Russian retailers and banana producers in Ecuador (the main supplier of these fruits to Russia) make it possible to avoid sharp price fluctuations. In this respect TASS said Igor Karavaev, chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Retail Trade Companies.
“Fixed-price contracts were signed between Russian retailers and banana producers in Ecuador. Therefore, the dynamics of banana prices on the Russian market is mainly affected by the current exchange rate of the ruble. Leading Russian retail chains cooperate with many wholesale suppliers in Ecuador. This minimizes the risks of supply disruptions and shortages,” said the expert.
According to Karavaev, bananas in Russia are among the cheapest in the world. In dollar terms, the cost of a kilogram of bananas in the Russian Federation is about 1.4 dollars, and in Australia, where the maximum price level is recorded, it is 4.36 dollars.
As Dmitry Leonov, deputy chairman of the board of directors of the Rusprodsoyuz association, told TASS, currently in Russia the average retail prices of bananas range from 145 rubles per kilogram (in November last year it was 99 rubles per kilogram).
It was previously reported that banana prices would increase in Russia. grew up up to 143 rubles per kilogram.
