Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk said Western countries will send 2.6 billion hryvnias (over $71 million) to Ukraine to buy firewood for residents of the country’s front-line areas. His words were reported on Telegram by the press service of the Ministry of Reintegration of the Republic.
“International donors will double their spending on firewood. The amount of these needs is 2.6 billion hryvnia,” said the politician.
According to Vereshchuk, a total of 5 billion hryvnia (about 137 million dollars) will be allocated to Ukraine for “getting through the winter”. He announced that Ukrainian citizens will be given cash to buy firewood or will deliver the wood themselves. Delivery routes are currently being worked on.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ukrainian leadership will focus on spending in the field of security and defense, which is exactly what the donor countries and the recipient country agreed on.
