Dutch shipbuilding company Damen suffered losses due to buyers leaving the Russian Federation

The management of the Netherlands’ largest shipbuilding company Damen demanded local compensation for losses incurred due to anti-Russian sanctions BloombergCiting company spokesman Rick van de Wegh.

The publication says that the company filed a lawsuit against the government in a Rotterdam court on May 10 with related claims. The case will continue in 2024.

The family business Damen Shipyard was founded in 1927 and builds a wide range of ships. It signed contracts with Russian buyers before the imposition of sanctions.

“Following the introduction of sanctions (against Russia – socialbites.ca), the Dutch government decided that such contracts may not be fulfilled by local business. The government did not offer compensation to Damen for this damage,” said Rick van de Weg.
