According to the information received by the agency Reuters The United States is working with Romania and Moldova to increase Ukraine’s grain exports via the Danube, according to an unnamed US State Department official.
The official noted that alternative routes such as the Danube route are a priority for the USA. This route passes through the territorial waters of NATO member countries and is considered a safer corridor in grain transportation.
In addition, the official said that the United States supports the efforts of the United Nations (UN) and Turkey to restart the grain agreement. This agreement has been suspended since July 18 after Russia objected to the extension of the agreement and informed Turkey, Ukraine and the UN.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously stated that the terms of the agreement with Russia were not fulfilled because Western countries did not fulfill their obligations. Putin also stated that most of the Ukrainian grain is exported to Western countries, but the supply of grain to the needy countries, including African countries, which is the main purpose of the agreement, could not be realized.
Last ship previously covered by grain agreement left Black Sea.
