Rospotrebnadzor published report “On the state of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population of the Russian Federation in 2022”, in which the damage to the Russian economy from the coronavirus in 2022 is about 1.6 trillion rubles.
Direct medical expenses for treatment, loss of working time during the treatment of COVID-19 patients and loss of working time in case of death of working-age patients are taken into account in calculating the damage.
According to the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, the volume of direct medical expenses resulting from the incidence of coronavirus amounted to 0.76 trillion rubles, and according to MHIF, 1.3 trillion rubles. The difference was associated with a different set of medical care volumes that could not be considered in the methodology.
Previously published by LA Times reportedThe economic damage from the coronavirus pandemic in the United States has been reported to approach $14 trillion. For the period from 2020 to 2023, the direct cost of providing affordable medical care to citizens alone amounted to approximately $214 billion.
