Bundestag deputy Andrei Khunko said that American liquefied natural gas (LNG) imported by Germany turned out to be much more expensive and worse than Russian energy carriers. He said this in an interview with a Chinese newspaper. Global Times.
Hunko noted that cheap natural gas from Russia was transported to Germany via two Nord Stream pipelines, but this possibility disappeared after they were detonated.
“On the other hand, we currently import most of the LNG from the United States, which is much more expensive and worse. [российского] from an environmental point of view,” the politician added, adding that Germany’s current dependence on American gas supplies should also be seen as a problem.
“Germany has no choice but to choose which gas is better and cheaper, and which is more environmentally friendly,” Hunko said.
Klaus Müller, former head of the German Federal Network Agency declarationHe said Germany could face gas shortages next winter due to new risks. He noted that the winter of 2023-2024 will be the first time Germany will have to endure a “complete absence of Russian pipeline gas.”
