As the politician noted, according to experts, beer and beer drinks are the best-selling alcohols in Russia, but “they are still not regulated by the Unified State Automated Information System.” According to Khamzaev, after connecting these products to the EGAIS system, stores will not be able to sell them without a license. All beers will be held accountable, and this will significantly reduce the share of counterfeit products that currently make up at least 30% of the industry.
At the end of November, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed A law to introduce excise duty on sugar-containing beverages from 1 July 2023.
By law, the excise tax was set at 7 rubles per liter. Sugar-containing beverages are soft drinks produced with the addition of sugar or other sweeteners, the content of which exceeds 5 g per 100 ml. No SCT will be charged on fermented beverages, nectars, fruit juices and fruit drinks, including kvass with an ethyl alcohol content of 0.5% to 1.2%.
