Uni-K is quite a large crossover: 4865mm long, 1948mm wide. Similar size like Toyota Highlander or Geely Tugella.

At the same time, Changan’s saloon has a five-seater. There are versions with front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, all with a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 226 hp. plus an 8-speed Aisin automatic.

Live Uni-K is as good as in the picture. An unusual “radiator grill” integrated into the bumper. The retractable door handles are very similar to Range Rover’s. You approach the car with a key fob in your pocket – the handles come out and the car welcomes you with a pulsating light of lights in a circle. Cool!

Inside there is an unusual front panel with a “neat” above the steering wheel. Minimal buttons, climate control touch. The quality of the interior trim is excellent: the materials are soft, well fitted. But the seats, traditional for the “Chinese”, are inhospitable for tall people – especially the non-adjustable headrest gets in the way.

The rear seat is very spacious, but has, apart from two backrest positions, no adjustment. According to our measurements, the suitcase has only 308 liters capacity and is easily trimmed.

On the right display neatly you can show streaming video from the camera under the rear spoiler. Visibility is mediocre – the hood is high, the pillars are thick. A surround view system comes in handy – until the lenses get dirty.

The “square” handlebars are more like a handlebar. Although you should not turn it less than normal – from lock to lock 2.7 turns. You turn on the right turn signal – it begins to “tick” in the right ear, turn on the left – in the left. The fact is that the sound is produced by speakers installed directly in the headrest.

The turbo engine is good “friends” with the machine and it is convenient to control the traction with the floor accelerator. But acceleration “to the floor” is not impressive – there is no official data, and subjectively Changan leaves barely 10 seconds to hundreds. Not happy and weak engine sound.

Don’t relax


In the city, Uni-K with optional soundproof front windows pleases with silence. Another would be to get rid of the engine vibration at idle speed. And when you go on the highway, you gain more than 80-100 km / h, huge tires 265/45 R21 begin to make a noticeable noise.

They seem to have been knocked off course on tracks in the asphalt. But managing Changan is pleasant and convenient – the responses are sensible and timely, feedback “at the wheel” is there. There are no sports features in the character, but there is no reproach either. The suspension swings nobly on long waves, but it could be more comfortable on bumps and potholes.

Four-wheel drive can be activated with a key – the rear axle is connected by a BorgWarner clutch. A 4×4 transmission is more necessary for confidence on slippery roads – with 180mm clearance and a low-slung exhaust with a particulate filter, it’s better not to go off-road.

How long will it take?

This turbo engine is new, there are no owner and repairer reviews about it. On the test car, the media system was “buggy” – it refused to respond to certain manipulations: it did not turn on the all-round view, did not turn off the radio … Only a reset to factory settings helped. It is also necessary to “finish” the Russification – the translation is not always correct.

And most importantly – immediately after the purchase you should definitely do a full anti-corrosion agent. The bottom is protected a little more than nothing – between the areas covered with plastisol for acoustic comfort, there is a lot of bare metal. Including places subject to sandblasting from under the wheels!

What’s the price?

What impresses Changan Uni-K the most is that he has charisma. You can discuss how it drives and whether it breaks down, but you still experience this car as special. Dealers also feel this: it is impossible to buy Uni-K for the recommended 3.3-3.6 million rubles. The first cars were sold for 4.5-5 million rubles and even more. And what’s important – all sold out.
