GM has issued the most unusual recall in history

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and automaker General Motors have issued a recall of Chevrolet Malibu vehicles in the United States. The model is built on the same platform as the Opel Insignia. 2108 vehicles were subject to the recall.

About 200 of these 2,000 machines have a poorly welded front subframe and the rest of the load-bearing frame, which can lead to incorrect operation of the airbag sensors and unpredictable entrapment of the front part of the body during a frontal impact.

Dealers will check the recalled vehicles and since there is no easy solution to the problem, General Motors will buy the owner’s Malibu if such a problem is found.

It turned out to be cheaper to write off broken cars than to restore them to full condition. With the current Malibu model costing around $25,000 (base version), the manufacturer will have to pay $5 million for defective cars.
