The authorities of the Moscow region have revised the agreement with the operator of the photo and video recording system MVS Group. The number of cameras on the roads in the region has risen from 1,257 to 1,837.
The good news is that there will also be a new digital system to increase road capacity.
The Ministry of Transport of the Moscow Region has been cooperating with MVS Group since 2016. The company has invested 4.94 billion rubles in traffic cameras and receives 233 rubles from every fine paid. In 2020-2021, about 50 million camera fines were paid in the Moscow region, which means that the company’s revenue was about 10 billion rubles.
The number of cameras will be expanded in 2023 as part of the national Good Quality Safe Roads project.
“The calculation of the number of cameras corresponds to the needs of the region in closing off dangerous areas and reducing accidents,” Kommersant was quoted as saying by the transport ministry. – MVS Group will also implement with its own resources (about 1 billion rubles) a new management system for the regional transport complex, which will link all existing subsystems (control of traffic lights, control of the movement of buses, trolleybuses, municipal vehicles, etc.) , will increase the capacity of roads and the overall level of digitalization of the industry.”
As Grigory Shukhman, an expert on photo and video recording systems, recalled, in 2020 the Moscow region was the leader in the number of camera fines. In 2021, the championship went to Moscow, but in 2023 the Moscow region could become the leader again due to the growth in the number of cameras.
