Since the beginning of 2022, almost twice as many car thefts have been registered in the Russian Federation than in the whole of 2021. This is contrary to the expectations of their growth due to a sharp increase in the cost of cars and difficulties in obtaining spare parts (there are it was believed they would steal under analysis).
About this at the conference “Barrier-2022. Fighting insurance fraud,” said Sergey Efremov, vice president of the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSS).
According to the BCC, in the list of the most stolen “leaders” are the same: Hyundai, Kia and cars of domestic brands.
According to the Bureau of Insurance Histories, 1,531 reports of car theft were registered in Russia in all of 2021, and during 10 months of this year – 746.
For months, the picture looked like this:
- January – 65 thefts
- february – 113
- March – 73
- Apr – 85
- May – 70
- From June to September – a gradual decrease from 60 to 78
- October – 48.
Efremov believes that the limiting factor was the restriction on the export of vehicles outside the Russian Federation.
Recall that in the spring, cars imported from abroad were included in the list of goods that were allowed to be exported from the country until December 31, 2022. There are no export restrictions to Belarus, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, LPR and DPR.
