China’s Zeekr is moving to curb the import of unofficial grey-market electric vehicles by blocking those that arrive in other countries. A Kazakh outlet named Tengri Auto cited a letter from the carmaker detailing the new approach.
Starting with vehicles that roll off the line after July 15, Zeekr plans to issue warning notices to cars found outside of China or using SIM cards that the manufacturer has not authorized. If the warnings go unheeded, the second notification would disable display functions, according to the message emitted by the system.
Representatives from Zeekr’s international office conveyed that this step is meant to bolster official sales channels and protect the brand’s authorized dealer network and consumer protections abroad.
In related news, Zeekr has previously disclosed updates to its 009 minivan, highlighting a refreshed look and upgraded technology as part of a broader product refresh.
The updated 009 gains extra chrome trim on the front bumper and a lidar sensor mounted on the roof, a feature that underpins the active safety and driver assistance systems. Additional chrome accents along the lower sides of the vehicle enhance the exterior styling while contributing to its distinctive silhouette.
Inside, the redesigned 009 continues to emphasize flexible seating configurations. The base design offers two seating layouts, with four or six seats available to accommodate different passenger needs. A seven-seater version is also planned for the updated minivan, featuring separated seats in the first and second rows and a solid three-seat sofa in the rear to optimize comfort on longer trips.
Powertrain options for the updated 009 include a rear-wheel drive configuration with two output levels at 340 horsepower and 421 horsepower. All-wheel drive variants remain part of the lineup, delivering enhanced traction and stability across diverse road conditions and weather scenarios.
These developments come after earlier reports that Geely had introduced an upgraded Galaxy L6 sedan, signaling ongoing momentum within Zeekr’s broader family of electric vehicles and Geely’s strategic push into premium mobility solutions. The company’s continued evolution reflects a focus on strengthening product capability, expanding regional access, and ensuring that official distribution channels align with the brand’s long-term vision for safety, quality, and customer experience. At every turn, Zeekr emphasizes the importance of legitimate imports aligned with local regulations, verified software, and compliant network access that supports a seamless ownership experience for customers in Canada and the United States. The goal remains clear: to offer compelling electric mobility while safeguarding consumer trust and the integrity of authorized markets across North America.
