Punishments operate all year, but each season brings its own nuances. In winter, certain violations become more likely to appear on the radar, and the penalties shown below reflect that seasonal reality.
- Dirty license plates
When a vehicle’s plate is unreadable and identification is difficult, a fine of 500 rubles can be issued. If the traffic police inspector suspects that the dirt on the plate is a deliberate act, such as avoiding parking fees or evading enforcement, the driver may face a 5,000 ruble fine or a suspension of driving privileges for up to three months.
- Ignore mark
Winter conditions can obscure road markings under snow, yet that does not exempt a driver from penalties. Photo and video systems on the roads continue to record violations, so it is unwise to risk crossing a line or entering a restricted area and then try to dispute the citation later. For crossing a solid line, fines range from 1,000 to 1,500 rubles. Driving in the opposite lane can bring a 5,000 ruble fine or the loss of rights for up to six months.
- Warming up the engine for a long time
A pretrip engine warm-up is common, but extending it to the point of disturbing neighbors is not acceptable. If complaints arise, a traffic police officer may issue a fine ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 rubles.
Requires 7,000 tires in popular sizes
Proper tire supply is seen as essential for public order and the ability to deliver urgent services. In collaboration with a civic initiative, fundraising efforts have begun to stock tires for the vehicles used by public safety, emergency services, and humanitarian aid operations. Equipment for Donbass delivery and other critical missions, including ambulances and service vehicles, may benefit from such tire support. Citizens can contribute through the collection page to help meet these needs.
