In the European market for 2022, the Volkswagen Tiguan ranked tenth in popularity. The model wears signs of aging, and Volkswagen has already initiated development on a new generation of the Tiguan.

Recent road-test imagery reveals a prototype that closely mirrors the current Tiguan design. A closer look, however, reveals multiple stickers applied to create the illusion of a more radical change.

The headlights, front grille, and the distinctive C-shaped air intake accents on the bumper, along with the lower door panels and tailpipe styling, are all sticker work aimed at confusing observers about the true transformation progress.

Strategically, VW intends to enlarge the new Tiguan slightly. The underpinnings will borrow from a revised version of the existing platform. In practice this means the wheelbase remains nearly the same while the overhangs become noticeably longer.

The next Tiguan will not be a full electric vehicle, avoiding direct competition with the ID series such as ID.4 and ID.5. Instead, the lineup is expected to feature updated versions of familiar engines, including hybrid powertrains.

Volkswagen has been conducting tests on the new Tiguan for more than a month, and a formal debut appears imminent. There is a strong possibility the company will unveil the model in the latter half of 2023, with availability extending to markets like Russia, either officially or through parallel import channels.
