The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, commonly known as UAZ, is moving forward with plans to assemble its vehicles at the Chirchik technopark in Uzbekistan. This development was communicated by the technopark’s press service, which outlined that UAZ representatives conveyed their intention to initiate local car assembly and were exploring the possibility of establishing a specialized technopark to support this effort.
A delegation from the Russian car maker toured the Chirchik technopark to learn about its operations, facilities, and the opportunities it offers to automotive projects. The statements did not specify when production might begin on site or which UAZ models were being considered for assembly at the Uzbek site. The visit underscored a broader interest from UAZ in expanding manufacturing footprint beyond Russia and exploring regional production synergies, with Uzbekistan emerging as a potential hub for new assembly capabilities in Central Asia.
Looking ahead, UAZ has indicated plans to visit Ghana in September 2023 to assess local manufacturing prospects and begin collaborative efforts to establish a vehicle assembly presence in the West African nation. Earlier negotiations with a Ghanaian partner in July of the same year led to a purchase proposal for about 300 pickups, with the Ghanaian side expressing intent to finalize the deal before year-end. These activities reflect UAZ’s broader strategy to diversify production sites and respond to regional demand by leveraging localized assembly and distribution networks across multiple continents.
In related developments, UAZ previously announced that it would commence the production of gearboxes in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This expansion into component manufacturing reinforces the company’s objective of strengthening its integrated supply chain to support potential international assembly operations and to improve overall production efficiency across its global network.
