In August 2022, Russian buyers leaned toward Chinese passenger cars, purchasing 11,037 new units. This figure represents 25.9% of the month’s total market for new cars, according to data compiled by the Analytical Agency Avtostat, drawing on information from JSC Electronic Passport.
Among the brands, Haval led the month’s sales with 3,040 cars moved off dealer lots. Close behind, Chery delivered 2,983 units, while Geely sold 2,935 vehicles. Exeed followed in fourth place with 1,282 cars sold in August. Taken together, these four brands accounted for 93% of all Chinese-brand cars registered in Russia that month.
The most popular Chinese model in August was the Haval Jolion, chosen by 2,055 buyers. Geely’s Coolray was next in line with 1,599 registrations, and Chery’s Tiggo 7 PRO registered 1,595 sales, rounding out the top three for the period.
Earlier reports noted that Geely began offering a long-version Jiaji minivan in the domestic market, branded with the prefix L. The new variant starts from 119,800 yuan, which translates to roughly 1 million rubles at the prevailing exchange rate.
