A study conducted by VSK Insurance House and reported by socialbites.ca highlights the trends in car vandalism across Russia in 2023. The most frequently vandalized brands were Toyota, Lada, and Hyundai, with incidents often involving shattered windows. The data suggests that breaking glass was a common consequence of street vandalism affecting a wide range of models and owners.
In 2023, repairing damaged glass emerged as one of the top reasons people contacted their insurers, accounting for about 32 percent of claims. The groups most often seeking glass repairs were Toyota, VAZ, Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW owners. Insurers noted that the average cost to restore a vandalized vehicle glass would be around 6,000 rubles.
VSK Insurance House also reported that vandalism represented just under 7 percent of CASCO claims involving vehicles at risk of damage from third-party actions. At the same time, the total number of such incidents showed a decline of at least 30 percent compared with the previous year. The typical payout for an insured vandalism incident was estimated at 81,000 rubles.
The geographic distribution of these incidents showed Moscow and the Moscow region accounted for the largest share of cases, nearly half of all complaints. The remaining instances were reported in Saint Petersburg and surrounding areas, with smaller shares recorded in the Krasnodar Territory, Voronezh, and Samara regions. These patterns point to urban centers bearing the brunt of vandalism in that year.
In addition to the general trends, the data suggests that the most expensive repairs occurred on some of the most popular Chinese-made vehicles, underscoring how market popularity can influence risk exposure and repair costs.
