The Toyota Hilux has emerged as this year’s best selling vehicle in Oman, underscoring Toyota’s dominant position in the Sultanate’s new car market. Through the first nine months of 2021, the market expanded by 7.8 percent to a total of 54,646 registrations, signaling a strong turnaround after a challenging previous year. Toyota leads the charge with a stellar 20.9 percent rise, driving its market share to a commanding 47.5 percent from 42.4 percent in the same period a year earlier. In contrast, Nissan faced a sharp setback, dropping 42.8 percent while still holding a sizable 15.8 percent of the market. Hyundai and MG posted standout gains, with Hyundai up 54.2 percent and MG surging an astonishing 142.3 percent, both narrowly trailing Toyota’s overall lead. Other brands also posted solid gains: Isuzu up 67.4 percent, Honda up 49.9 percent, Mitsubishi up 39.3 percent, and Mazda up 39.1 percent, helping to push the top ten balance further in favor of growth across the board. Ram, Land Rover, Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet, Ford, and Jeep also posted double-digit gains, highlighting a broad-based expansion across multiple segments and price points.
In the model rankings, the Toyota Hilux climbed to the top spot with a 71.1 percent year-over-year increase, overtaking the Nissan Sunny which slipped 9.2 percent. The Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup demonstrated continued momentum, rising 22.8 percent to secure third place, while the Toyota Land Cruiser fell 1.8 percent and the Toyota Hiace grew 37.6 percent. The MG5 registered the most impressive model-level gain within the top ten, rising 161.9 percent to reach position ten. Hyundai Tucson also doubled its sales, advancing more than 100 percent from the prior year. Further down the list, Ram Pickup, MG6, MG HS, Mazda6, and MG RX8 each posted notable gains, reflecting a diverse array of popular models across brands. Among the newer introductions, the Kia Sonet stood out as the most successful recent launch, followed closely by the Nissan Xterra, the Changan CS95, and the Changan CS85 in the rankings for the year.
