Traffic authorities in the Moscow region have begun issuing license plates from the new 550 series for vehicles. A Telegram channel called Autopotok shared a photo of a Porsche crossover displaying a regional code 550, confirming the rollout.
Images of cars bearing 550 region code plates have also appeared on several car-enthusiast sites that compile photographs of vehicles from across the country, signaling growing adoption of the new format among collectors and daily drivers alike.
A wide range of vehicle types has already been spotted with 550 series plates. Observations include a Hyundai Santa Fe, a Mercedes-Benz CLA, a Kia Rio, a Hyundai Porter truck, and a Ford S-Max minivan, illustrating the series’ broad applicability across different segments.
The Moscow region is poised to introduce the 550 and 250 coded numbers as the transition from the previous 790 number series concludes. This move forms part of a broader renewal of regional plates to accommodate increasing vehicle volumes and to streamline identification across regions.
In the regional context, the 550 code marks the addition of a seventh regional identifier, following 50, 90, 150, 190, 750, and 790. This expansion reflects ongoing efforts to diversify license plate options while maintaining quick recognition for enforcement and administration.
Earlier updates noted the completion of restoration work on a rare intercity bus model, the ZIL-127, within the Moscow area, underscoring ongoing efforts to preserve and showcase notable transportation heritage alongside modern plate changes.
