In Moscow, the traffic police have logged more than 1,200 notices of suspected drunken driving since early August. The trend has grown more pronounced on Friday evenings and over weekends, when officers intensify checks to curb impaired driving. Law enforcement teams now position themselves closer to high-risk locations, using mobile checkpoints to ensure that signs of intoxication are detected and violators are stopped before they can disappear into city traffic.
Officials report that the police department is also coordinating with licensed venues and other service-sector representatives to gather timely information about drivers displaying signs of intoxication. This collaborative approach is designed to strengthen the early identification of risky driving behavior and reduce the opportunities for intoxicated motorists to evade scrutiny.
Recent enforcement data show that last week alone 496 cases of driving under the influence were identified. Between August 15 and August 21, 2022, Moscow roads saw a total of 138 traffic accidents. In these incidents six people lost their lives and 147 were injured, including 12 children under the age of 16 who were among the victims. The authorities emphasize that preventing such tragedies requires persistent monitoring and rapid intervention at the street level. Source: Moscow traffic police
