The launch of China’s electric sports car, the MG Cyberster, took place in Moscow, according to a report by Izvestia, filed from a press conference held by Emji Motor Rus LLC, the official MG brand representative in Russia. The event signaled the model’s arrival to the Russian market and highlighted its positioning as a high-performance, luxury-focused roadster in the growing EV segment.
Sales have already begun, with the roadster priced at 9.5 million rubles. The carmaker outlined plans to extend availability, noting that the vehicle would be showcased at dealerships in St. Petersburg, Surgut, and Tyumen after its Moscow premiere. This multi-city rollout underscores MG’s strategy to reach affluent buyers and drive enthusiasts across Russia, leveraging a network of high-end showrooms and experiential retail experiences.
MG Cyberster made its global debut in China last summer. Design work for the exterior was led by the SAIC Advanced Design Center studio in London, reflecting MG’s international design collaboration. The roadster measures 4535 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2690 mm, positioning it larger than rivals like the Jaguar F-Type, Mazda MX-5, and BMW Z4 in terms of footprint. Inside, the two-seat cabin emphasizes driver engagement, complemented by a panoramic sunroof and liftable doors reminiscent of certain exotics. The sunroof can be opened in about 10 seconds at speeds below 50 km/h, blending practical usability with a show-ready aesthetic.
China offers three powertrain configurations, with two rear-wheel-drive variants producing 314 hp or 340 hp. The flagship model is a twin-motor, all-wheel-drive version delivering 544 hp, with a 204 hp front motor and a 340 hp rear motor. In China, MG Cyberster pricing starts from ¥319.8 thousand, which translates to roughly 4.09 million rubles at current exchange rates. This breadth of options aims to appeal to a broad spectrum of performance-minded buyers, from track-inspired thrills to refined grand-touring capabilities.
In related news, Zeekr introduced a minivan with a robust engine lineup, continuing SAIC’s broad push into electrified mobility across the Chinese market and beyond. The broader MG and Zeekr portfolios illustrate how SAIC integrates global design studios, cross-market engineering, and a spectrum of electric vehicles to compete in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape. This strategic approach signals MG’s intent to attract Canadian and American customers who value technology, performance, and distinctive styling in electric mobility.
