Production of the Lada Aura business class sedan could begin in September 2024, according to reports from TASS, which cited AvtoVAZ vice president Sergei Gromak. The news underscores a broader plan to refresh the lineup with high-end models and updated powertrains, signaling a renewed emphasis on comfort, efficiency, and modern technology in the brand’s passenger-car segment.
Gromak indicated that several new models are on the roadmap for the next two years. The outline suggests a mix of electrified and conventional offerings, with the electric e-Largus set to roll out in Izhevsk next year. He also reaffirmed that the Lada Aura, a larger and more upscale sedan in the Aura family, is slated for a September launch. The remarks were shared during a roundtable at the Federation Council, painting a picture of a compact but ambitious product cadence aimed at expanding market reach while leveraging existing platforms and engineering know-how.
The Aura extended sedan, built on the Lada Vesta architecture, was previewed in Sochi in June 2023. The model is equipped with a 1.8-liter engine delivering 122 horsepower and paired with an automatic transmission, underscoring the emphasis on a balanced blend of performance and everyday usability. As part of the Aura family, the extended variant is positioned to offer improved interior space and refined ride quality, aligning with consumer expectations for business-class sedans in the mid-size segment.
According to AvtoVAZ, the plant is also pursuing the launch of a new Lada Iskra at the start of 2025, followed by an urban crossover built on the Vesta platform by the end of 2025. This strategic sequence appears designed to maintain steady production momentum, capitalize on shared engineering, and broaden the model mix in a way that appeals to both family-focused buyers and urban drivers seeking compact practicality with a touch of premium appeal.
Earlier, AvtoVAZ introduced the Sports Niva, a rugged variant powered by a 150 horsepower engine. The move reflects the brand’s intent to keep a presence in off-road and all-weather segments, pairing capable performance with the latest drivetrain and safety features. It also signals continued attention to heritage models while pushing for modernization across the lineup.
In addition to AvtoVAZ developments, Renault’s Niagara concept pickup was showcased previously, illustrating the group’s ongoing exploration of diverse vehicle types and configurations. The Niagara concept highlighted the potential for a practical, compact pickup with a focus on versatility and urban utility, signaling strategic thinking about how Renault and its partners could complement Lada’s core strengths in the domestic market.
