A prototype of an unmanned heavy KamAZ dump truck with an 8×4 wheel configuration is undergoing testing in Tatarstan. The information comes from KamAZ PJSC’s official Telegram channel, which refers to the vehicle as RoboCop. The name nods to the 1987 American science fiction film and signals the experimental nature of the project.

According to the message, after the unloading platform is mounted, the KamAZ Atlant 49 Robocop will be routed to the company’s research and development center for further modification. Following improvements, it will proceed to a real‑world test in one of the coal mines near Kemerovo to evaluate performance under demanding mining conditions.

In June, unmanned KamAZ trucks were observed moving along the M-11 Neva highway on the route from St. Petersburg to Moscow. Officials noted that even with autonomous control, human drivers will still be present in the vehicle cabins during these trials, underscoring a cautious, staged approach to full autonomy.

Earlier reports indicated that Uzbekistan has begun preparing students for roles at the KamAZ automobile plant. Cooperative efforts between Tashkent State University and KamAZ’s Chelny facility include teacher exchanges, student internships, and employment opportunities for graduates at the automotive giant, illustrating a broader regional collaboration in mechanical engineering and manufacturing expertise.

There were also references suggesting that unmanned trucks could be tasked with transporting ammunition and humanitarian aid in zones designated for special military operations, highlighting the dual-use potential of autonomous heavy vehicles and the ongoing discussions around their deployment within secured operations.
