Rosneft’s research teams in Tomsk and Tyumen have outlined a strategic approach to advancing gas and gas condensate fields through intelligent development. The company outlined that the core of the project is an automatic production management system built around a digital twin, a virtual replica that mirrors real-world processes and conditions in the field.
According to the announcement, software prototypes for key modules have already undergone initial testing on specialized simulators that faithfully reproduce the physics of production environments. These simulator stands enable engineers to verify control logic, optimization routines, and safety protocols before any field deployment, helping to reduce risk and accelerate iteration cycles.
The project was introduced during a scientific and technical conference focused on cutting-edge technologies for oil, gas, and gas condensate field development. This year’s Rosneft event drew more than 250 participants from the scientific community, mining and service companies, engineering centers, and manufacturers supplying technology and equipment for the energy sector. The conference, organized by the Rosneft Corporate Institute in Tomsk, served as a platform for sharing practical advances and strategic insights into digital transformation within the industry.
Delegates explored topics spanning information modeling, the design and construction of facilities, and the day-to-day operations required to run productive assets. Discussions highlighted how digital twins of existing facilities can be expanded and integrated with mobile infrastructure solutions to support remote decision making and real-time monitoring of key performance indicators.
At the Russia exhibition and forum, Rosneft showcased a field digital twin located in Bashkiria. Attendees could experience the interface of the field control center and gain a sense of what it feels like to operate an oil field from a distance. The demonstration emphasized remote parameter monitoring, centralized control of production processes, and the ability to respond quickly to operational changes through an integrated digital platform.
