The Kaliningrad Avtotor plant has begun laying the groundwork for local production of the BAIC BJ40 all-terrain vehicle, with the first test samples of the model already gathered for evaluation. Avtotor’s publication, shared with socialbites.ca, confirms that the factory is now moving through the initial stages necessary to bring the BJ40 to the assembly line.

Current activities focus on stabilizing production documentation, installing and reprogramming the equipment, and enhancing the line with additional tooling to accommodate the new model. At the same time, training programs are being finalized for personnel directly involved in the assembly process to ensure readiness for a smooth ramp-up once production begins.

The BJ40 represents a mid-size SUV from the Chinese automaker BAIC. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivering about 225 horsepower and paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle includes all-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case, offering enhanced capability for challenging terrains. Notably, the BJ40 features removable roof sections that can be detached without tools, adding to its versatility for open-air driving under favorable conditions. Inside, the instrument cluster is a 12-inch display, complemented by a 10-inch touchscreen multimedia system, providing modern connectivity and information access for the driver and passengers.

Earlier, in the Russian market, a base version of the Kaiyi E5 sedan was introduced, marking another BAIC-related model making its way into the country’s automotive lineup.
